MINI-PARK DAY AT RAYMOND SATURDAY
SEPTEMBER 25, 2010

Mini-Park Day to celebrate history by preserving hallowed ground will again be sponsored by Friends of Raymond (FOR) and will take place on Artillery Ridge on the Raymond battlefield on Saturday, September 25, 2010. Due to recent property acquisitions, FOR has placed ten cannon on Artillery Ridge on the battlefield. Five of these cannon have barrels already mounted, and on Saturday FOR plans to mount five more barrels. The plan is to get the battlefield ready for October, a month which will include the annual Pilgrimage and a Penn State University tour to Raymond. FOR President Parker Hills said that, “Raymond will eventually have one of the most impressive artillery displays on any battlefield, anywhere, and the completion of these first ten cannon on Artillery Ridge will be a great start.”

Friends of Raymond volunteers will meet at the battlefield at 8:30 a.m. at Artillery Ridge just south of the Walking Trail on Hwy 18, where work will begin. The main objective is the completion of the ten cannon on the ridgeline by mounting barrels on them, but in addition, several cannon will be painted, trash will be picked up, interpretive markers will be cleaned, and the walking trail will be spruced up.

This will be a great opportunity to see history being made, and to help make it, by volunteering to assist in the construction of the Raymond battlefield. How many times in a lifetime does such a chance exist?
