Whitworth Rifle Completes Confederate Battery

Installation of a replica Whitworth Rifle barrel at the Confederate battery on November, 2016, completed FOR’s long-term goal of re- producing and emplacing eve- ry piece of artillery involved in the Battle of Raymond. All 22 Union pieces and two of the three Confederate cannon were already in place in approximately the same positions and in exactly the same calibers as those employed in the May 12, 1863, engagement. According to Gen. Parker Hills (Ret), Raymond is now the only battlefield in the United States to display a working-breech Whitfield rifled cannon.
